▶ 0:45:26I have led the awning safety act it's a important consumer safety bill that would direct the consumer product safety commission to promulgate a safety standard for fixed and freestanding motorized retractable awnings and no matter where you're from but especially um in Florida uh finding shade and cover on a sunny day or on a rainy day is very important and the last thing anyone needs is to uh be worried that you're going to suffer an injury from a faulty
▶ 0:45:57dangerous Awning in 2019 a motorized awning was recalled after 14 accidents including one fatal injury uh at that time the consumer product safety commission worked quickly with the manufacturer to recall the product and provide a remedy for consumers but then um it hit much closer to home too because in 2023 our for former committee staff for Olivia Shields her father was killed in a tragic accident Michael natat is remember remembered by
